Christmas Cheer Take 1 & 2

Here is a little Christmas cheer that was spread at Soren's daycare holiday party. The first video was an attempt at Feliz Navidad, the second was a more traditional holiday carol. As you can see, Soren is far more into observing then partaking. Many warm holiday wishes from our family to yours, however chaotic they may be.

The Big Bang Botch-Up

Up until this past weekend I had been Soren's hairdresser, before I was stripped of the honor from many well wishing friends and family. I loved the curls that formed with the summer humidity, even if he was often called a girl. I tried to view the style as my little surfer boy look. Then came the cold and the curls went flat, verging on the edge of a mullet. Out came the scissors and with one quick turn of the head and a badly timed snip, the botch-up occurred and now my little surfer boy had turned into a bad version of a Jesuit priest, with a mullet. I tried to fix the mistake, making new snips at least once a week. I gave in to just letting the hair grow and then sought professional help. We made the trek to Kids Hair where Soren was mesmerized by the TV, not flinching a muscle, and out came a perfectly clean boy haircut.

Arty Pants

For the past 10 weeks Soren has been taking a weekly art class with the phenomenal Art With Ellen. Ellen is brilliant, with more energy then a roomful of toddlers, and her passion is contagious. She is a real find and exposed Soren to a huge variety of mediums and materials including clay, masks, carving and painting. At this point, I don't think that Soren has a future in the visual arts, as he was more happy running around the room then engaging in the class projects. This winter though we are back to music at McPhail, an art that I know he is passionate about.

The Triple Whammy Babysitting Co-op

So what is a person supposed to do during a recession to get a free babysitter for a date night with their spouse? Start a babysitting co-op, and that is just what I did. Once a month a member opens their home to the other two members - we are starting off small. We hosted the first event, opening our home to Kai and Helen, the honorary members of the club, while their parents went out for a three hour date night. It was chaotic bliss for the kids, who all had a blast, while Randy and I barely kept our heads above the toddler frenzy. Now we can look forward to cashing in our dates for the next two months.

Snow Daze

"Snow" can now officially be added to Soren's increasing vocabulary. As excited as he was to witness this great new white world from the window, you would think that he would have dove into the snowsuit. But no, the snowsuit was just an unnecessary evil holding him back from getting outside. We had the classic stuffing the unwilling toddler into the snowsuit scene on our living room floor. And getting a toddlers thumb into the thumb part of a mitten requires pure talent and patience - neither which I have mastered, but the season is young. But once outside, the sweet Soren grin and sense of awe was worth all the struggle.

The Leading Lady

At a recent photo shoot of Soren's leading lady Helen, he couldn't help but get in on the action. Besides being as cute as ever, Helen is a real tough gal and can take Soren's physical (and at times) combative prowess like a real champ.
