Dad & Kids Annual Camp Out 2010

This is now the second year in a row that the dad's have organized a camp out for the kids. This year they went to Baker Park Reserve (where we camped earlier this summer). They all had a brilliant time, sleeping through 40 degree nights, and cooking a breakfast in a morning drizzle. The weekend ended on a shining note for all. They even made T-shirts this year, as represented in the first and final image. Next year Sevi will be added to the annual event. Yea dad's for pulling together another great camp out. The Things They Say #2

The Scene: Andrea asking Soren about his preschool visit to the Bee Apiary.
Andrea: "Did you get to see any bee's up close on your hike today?"
Soren: "Yup, one landed on my nose and then poured honey in my mouth."

Wait, WE want to go to Preschool!

Randy and I aren't sure who is more excited about Soren's preschool, him or us. Today was the first day for us all at Dodge Nature Preschool . We have heard rave reviews about the preschool the last few years and it completely fits with our lifestyle and family beliefs. The Dodge Nature Preschool uses the inherent wonder, complexity and beauty of the natural world as a catalyst for a child's growth and development. With their teachers and classmates, children discover the wonders of nature and play on the Model Farm where barnyard animals provide stimulating opportunities for learning and growth. Programs on beekeeping, honey making, maple syruping - as well as tasting apples picked right off the tree - encourage children to explore how their lives are part of the world of nature. The location and preschool building is so beautiful and inviting. From the entrance with the sculpture of children holding hands, to the childrens' entrance door and into the classroom where there are chickens, snakes and guinea pigs as classroom pets. Soren has been eagerly waiting for school to start since we enrolled last Spring. Each day ends with a e-mail sent to the parents re-capping the days activities. Here is a snippit from today's e-mail. Can you guess who's son was the helper in search of the fire fighter hats? When I picked him up the teacher said that Soren was sad at the end because he didn't want to leave. We can only hope that his excitement continues for the school year. If not, Randy or I will be happy to trade places with him.

Hello All -
We had a wonderful first day of school! The classroom was quiet (with only 10 children here) but everyone enjoyed exploring the classroom and meeting new friends. We started our day inside painting, playing with playdough, building with blocks, and looking at books. During inside time a few friends helped teacher Natalia get some fireman hats and books for our classroom! We also helped Christine make some popcorn! Almost everyone joined in to watch the popcorn POP! After inside play time, we all sat together for group and then snack. Outside we stayed on the playground. On the playground we found a "giant worm" and a frog!

The Great Minnesota Get Together #2

It has been three years exactly since our last visit to the MN State Fair, back when Soren was a baby. This time it was more about entertaining the kids rather then entertaining ourselves, which also meant doubling the budget by adding more food and kiddie rides. Out of all the things to do and see at the fair, the biggest hit for Soren was counting the police officers as they did their foot patrol. Sevi was as laid back as ever, enjoying it all.
