Kitchen Closed

This past weekend I closed the physical and psychological milk bank that Soren has drawn from for the last two years. There's a warmth and simplicity in the exchange that is conveyed well by this 1977 clip of Buffy St. Marie on Sesame Street. There is also the less romantic side. The "Mama, Mama Milk" wake up call that leaves you feeling like you are literally being consumed, physically, emotionally, personally. My friend Gala describes it well: "One of the great challenges of parenting is the relative lack of choice whether or not to give of yourself. The only other option is neglect, which alarms every mothering instinct and becomes a burning like fire in your bones, no matter how tired you are-- and keeps you pouring it out."

Biker Boys

Just like last year, Soren received a bike for this years birthday. This years bike though actually has pedals and training wheels, a true toddler bike thanks to our craigslist find. Unfortunately, Soren's birthday doesn't fall into the best time of year for biking, so he has to do what his Papa does these long, cold Minnesota winter days - train indoors. Perhaps for next years birthday we can outfit Soren with bike shorts and a jersey, but for now he is pretty darn cute biking in his footed flannel sleeper. Go Team Lewandowski!

Mr. 2 Year Old

Happy Birthday dear one, we love you clear up to the moon - and back. Why the moon? Because you are fascinated with the moon and when we go on our nightly moon hunts you give the sweetest and most endearing moon hugs and kisses. Thank you for continuing to teach us to look at life in awe and to celebrate the simplicity of everyday experiences. All our love, Mama and Papa.
